With a name that seems predestined for a stone wall, the village of Ston, Croatia, claims to have the longest stone wall in Europe. The wall, that also has some imposing forts on top and can be walked upon, was built by the republic of Dubrovnik to protect the land and still has 5,5 km of very solid rock. Inside the walls there are Ston and Mali Ston, very well preserved traditional villages, famous also for their oyster aquaculture.
Ston is found in the South part of Croatian Adriatic coast, at the beginning of Peljesac peninsula and on the road to the beautiful island of Korchula, the birth place of Marco Polo.
